The Green Deal is an innovative government initiative to reduce carbon emmisions. The scheme is due to launch in October 2012.
Homeowners will be able to benefit by having a wide range of energy saving measures installed free at the point of installation.
Any saving that are made by having any measures installed will be added to the consumers energy bills to cover the cost of the installation. This will help UK consumers make their home more energy efficient, without the worry of any initial financial outlay.
For example Mrs Jones is a pensioner and has an inefficient boiler which is over 15 years old. She gets her boiler replaced on the new green deal scheme with a modern condensing boiler which now heats her hot water and heating system on demand. She pays nothing to get this installed This new boiler is estimated to reduce her annual gas consumer by £120. The saving made are now added to her electricity bills to cover the cost of the installation.
This site provides customers with information about Green Deal for homes and puts consumers in touch with approved companies in their area that are registered to undertake work. All measures on the scheme must first be approved by a registered assessor and carried out by an appointed installer. The scheme is administered by Decc (Department of Energy and Climate Change).
Current measures currently being proposed that can be covered by the Green Deal Scheme are listed below.
